Iranian explosive-laden surface drones (drone boats) attacked two crude oil tankers conducting a ship-to-ship transfer operation near the Basra offshore zone in Iraqi waters — the Safesea Vishnu (Marshall Islands-flagged, owned by New Jersey-based Safesea Group) and the MV Zefyros. Large fires broke out aboard both vessels. One Indian crew member was killed aboard the Safesea Vishnu; the remaining 15 Indian crew members were evacuated safely. CBS News and Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency released footage of the strike. Iran's IRGC Navy claimed responsibility, stating the vessels were targeted due to their US ownership links.
