Iraqi air defenses engage armed drones near Baghdad Green Zone and Balad Airbase

Iraqi security sources told Al Jazeera that the country's air defenses were responding to armed drones detected near the US embassy in the Green Zone and near Balad Airbase north of Baghdad in the early morning hours of Day 17. The activity came hours after a rocket attack on Victory Base near Baghdad International Airport which wounded five people. No casualties were reported from the drone interceptions. Iran-aligned militias operating under the Islamic Resistance in Iraq umbrella have continued to target US facilities throughout the conflict. CENTCOM has not issued a statement on the incident.
