A Shahed-type Iranian loitering munition struck RAF Akrotiri, the UK Royal Air Force base on the southern tip of Cyprus, at approximately 10:03 pm local time (20:03 UTC), causing minor damage to a hangar. Two more drones were intercepted by British Typhoon and F-35 jets scrambled from the base. No casualties were reported. The UK government stated it was "not at war" with Iran; Cypriot and Lebanese officials later attributed responsibility to Hezbollah acting with Iranian backing. The strike was the first attack on British sovereign territory since World War II, bringing the conflict to EU soil and prompting Greece to announce deployments of frigates and F-16s to defend Cyprus. Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides said the island would not be used as a base for offensive strikes on Iran.
