Both were near the campus at the time of the strike. Israeli authorities did not comment on the attack. Lebanon's Education Minister described the strike as an assault on Lebanese academic life. Lebanese University's president suspended all activities across its campuses in mourning. The Lebanese President strongly condemned the Israeli bombing of the university. This was the first fatal Israeli strike on a Lebanese higher education institution since the current conflict began.
