US and Israeli air forces struck and sank the Iranian frigate IRIS Sahand, a Jamaran-class destroyer, at Bandar Abbas naval base — the strategic hub of Iran's Persian Gulf fleet at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM confirmed the strike as part of a sustained campaign to neutralize Iran's naval power-projection capability in the Gulf. The Sahand, a domestically built 1,500-ton surface combatant, was struck by precision-guided munitions while berthed at its home pier. Eighteen IRGC Navy personnel were killed and 35 wounded. The ship burned for several hours before sinking at its berth, sending a large smoke column visible from Bandar Abbas city. Iran's state media confirmed "martyrdom of defenders of the sea" without specifying the vessel by name. Naval News and CENTCOM both confirmed the sinking. The destruction of the Sahand represents one of the most significant blows to Iran's surface fleet since the start of Operation Epic Fury and leaves Iran without functional Jamaran-class frigates in the Gulf.
