Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed on Wednesday morning that the IDF assassinated Iranian Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib in an overnight precision strike on a secret apartment in Tehran, making him the third senior Iranian official killed in 48 hours after security chief Ali Larijani and Basij commander Gholam Reza Soleimani. The IDF and Katz said senior ministry figures were also killed in the strike. Katz promised more "surprises" and said he and PM Netanyahu had authorized the military to kill any other senior Iranian official being targeted without additional approval. Khatib was a hardliner close to the late Ayatollah Khamenei and had served as intelligence minister since 2021. Iran has not yet confirmed his death. The Washington Post, The National, and multiple Israeli outlets reported the claim.
