A wave of at least five kamikaze drones and multiple rockets targeted the US Embassy compound in Baghdad's Green Zone early Tuesday local time, in what Iraqi security sources described as the most intense assault on the diplomatic facility since the war began on February 28. The C-RAM counter-rocket system and other air defenses engaged the incoming projectiles. Reuters reported a powerful explosion heard across the capital with smoke rising from the Green Zone. Iraq's air defenses also responded to drone threats near the Balad airbase in Salah al-Din governorate simultaneously. No casualties were reported. The attack was attributed to Iran-backed Islamic Resistance in Iraq factions.
