A US Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker refueling aircraft crashed in friendly airspace over western Iraq (Al-Anbar province) at approximately 2:00 pm ET (18:00 UTC) while on a combat refueling mission during Operation Epic Fury. CENTCOM confirmed all six crew members were killed and stated the crash was "not due to hostile fire or friendly fire." A second KC-135, tail number 63-8017 from the 314th Air Refueling Squadron at Beale AFB, California, declared an in-flight emergency and landed at Ben Gurion Airport in Israel with a partially sheared tail section, strongly indicating the two aircraft collided mid-air. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth called the six "American heroes." The crash was the deadliest single incident for US forces in Operation Epic Fury and the fourth US manned aircraft lost in two weeks. The six crew members were publicly identified the following day.
